LUNESTA® brand eszopiclone

LUNESTA® brand eszopiclone is a non-narcotic non-benzodiazepine indicated for the treatment of insomnia. Introduced in April 2005, LUNESTA allows patients to fall asleep quickly as well as sleep through the night and may be used by people experiencing transient insomnia as well as long-term by people with chronic insomnia.

We are currently conducting a study of eszopiclone in patients with insomnia and depression in the E.U. and in July 2007, submitted a Marketing Authorization Application in the E.U. In September 2007, we announced an international alliance with GlaxoSmithKline for commercialization of eszopiclone (brand name LUNIVIA®) for all markets worldwide, excluding the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Japan. We are also pursuing the opportunity to introduce eszopiclone in Japan and in July 2007, announced a partnership with Eisai Co. Ltd. for development and commercialization of eszopiclone for the Japanese market.

Insomnia
An estimated one third of adult Americans suffer from either chronic or occasional insomnia1. Symptoms of insomnia include difficulty falling asleep, awakening frequently during the night, waking up too early, an inability to fall back to sleep, or awakening feeling unrefreshed. Insomnia can be a serious condition. If left untreated, it may become progressively worse and in turn, potentially affect a person's emotional, mental and physical health.
